WINGER will release the album “Seven” in May; The music video for “Proud Desperado” is now available

Sam Wall on the band’s next album: “[There’s] 12 songs on the album. One song is a pretty big surprise.

“For me at least, there’s always a song on a WINGER album that comes to you from left field,” he explained. “Like on ‘Karma’we made a blues song — kip [Winger, WINGER frontman] and I co-wrote a song called ‘After all this time’. On “Better Days Are Coming”the title track, “Better Days Are Coming”it’s kinda funky and it’s fun and it’s different for WINGER; WINGERIt’s a rather heavy, darker and more metal band. So there’s a song on this album that’s very different for the band, which is cool.

“It’s meticulously produced and recorded, [with] tons of layers of background vocals,” he added. “It’s heavier lyrically, maybe. All WINGERRecords have a heavier connotation, as the guitars are tuned low; it’s just more aggressive. And there’s a bit of progressive flair to one of the songs. But I think people are going to really enjoy the album. I hope it will be well received. »

Roth also talked in more detail about the WINGER songwriting process, saying, “Well, kip And reb [Beach, guitar] are the main songwriters of the group; they are the core. But I co-wrote a song on this album with kip.

“With WINGERit starts normally [as] the musical idea. Many people write from lyrics and melodies. Most of the songs that I write, I have a melody or lyrics that are like the core or the starting point of a song. But with WINGERit’s a riff, it’s a musical idea.

“I remember when I first co-wrote with kip on some songs on “Better Days Are Coming”, we do not demonstrate the songs. We write them; we record the actual songs,” he explained. “So I’m looking at him, going, ‘How do you know you just want one more bar here? He’s, like, ‘I hear where I want to go with the lyrics.’ And I’m, like, “Because you’re making a lot of really big arrangement decisions,” and we’re recording the last guitar parts and the lyrics have to revolve around that.

“So it all starts with the music with WINGER“, Roth added. “But as the songs are written and the riffs come in, the melodies are in kipthe head. kiphe’s the maestro, you know? He is the master of the group. So he thinks as we write – what melodies go [be]how they’re going to work around the riffs, and inevitably make final judgment on the arrangement as we cut the songs. [It] used to be you demo songs. You were demoing a song, and sometimes you couldn’t beat the demo. You’d be, like, ‘There’s a magic about the demo that we can’t beat.’ SO WINGER really doesn’t have that problem anymore because while we’re writing the songs, we’re cutting out the final parts.

When asked if he liked working this way, Roth said, “I like it. I like it, because things move fast. It’s fast. It’s exiting. Because a song can sit there when you layer parts onto a song for months at a time. That might be a little over thought, you know what I mean? So when you write and create the song, the finale [album version]when you write [and recording it] instead of offering the demo [first], it’s exciting. Things are moving fast. »

WINGERThe next LP will be the sequel to the 2014 one. “Better Days Are Coming”.

In December 2020, Beach describes the new WINGER material to the 213Rock podcast saying, “It’s WINGER — heavy riffs with big vocals. Very catchy songs and very heavy stuff – very progressive.

A month earlier, Beach say it “Pat’s Soundbytes Unplugged” podcast that he and kip originally collected ideas for 11 tracks for WINGERnext album, but this kip “I threw six saying it must be like the first BOSTON disc where each song is undeniable. And he just wants it to be progressive and like nothing, he’s hard up front,” he said. “I brought him these riffs that are just straight rock riffs, and he said, ‘I already know what the next three chords will be after hearing three chords.

“We’re going for something that’s pop and sings along with cool, heavy, progressive riffs – kind of like [2009’s] ‘Karma’“, reb explain. “That’s what we’re headed for.”

WINGER hit the road starting with a UK tour with STEEL PANTHER in May, followed by an American tour with the Tom Keifer in June. Additionally, the band will be playing a number of headlining shows throughout the summer.
