Game’s Baddest Publicist Baes, Vol. 4

Happy Women’s History Month!

We’re BACK with more flowers, positive energy and gratitude for the hardest working women in any room: the publicists!

Since the dawn of eternity, publicists have proven themselves to be the true MVPs guiding clients, elevating careers, connecting decision makers to powerful actors, turning potential disasters into victories with one eye on their phone and the other on their inbox flooded with emails. during endless working days.

And that’s not even including the racist shenanigans faced by black publicists like the founder of the AM PR group. vanessa anderson who formed a coalition called “My Publicist is Black” with Yvette Noel-Schure (which represents Beyonce and Chlöe and Halle Bailey), Erica Tucker (Yara Shahidi), Ernest Dukes (Advertising at Capitol Music Group), Phylicia Fant (Head of Urban Music at Columbia Records), and Trell Thomas (Founder of Black Excellence Brunch).

“Once the group was created, we immediately started trying to put money in each other’s pockets. [with referrals,]” said Anderson in an interview with Variety.

“It’s really turned into a sounding board, a safe space where we can talk about anything and everything.”

Since its inception, the refreshingly inclusive movement has amplified networking opportunities while providing a therapeutic space for black publicists to vent their frustrations in a predominantly white industry.

“A lot of people like to put us in boxes, like we can only represent black people, and that’s just not true,” said Erica Tucker of Ascend PR Group (who represents Kendrick Sampson and Yara Shahidi) in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

I experience this all the time, like [at] lunches to get to know agents and managers, and they sometimes think, “Well, you’re just representing black talent.” She points out, “We can tell a variety of stories.”
