We saw the star The Parkers in drama films, television series and collecting statues at award shows. Now she’s back in her element on a stand-up stage with a lot to say. What can fans expect in the new comedy special?

“Mo’Nique delivers a powerful and career-defining stand-up performance in her unprecedented return to the stage. Filled with laugh-til-you-cry stories as well as heartbreaking emotions, Mo’Nique promises that ‘by the end of the show, you’ll understand why she’s the way she is, and true to form, she delivers. From the wicked streets of Baltimore and remembering her grandmother Mimi’s warnings about men, to reason for which she “ACCEPTS” the sometimes difficult realities that come with life, Mo’Nique with her unique brand of candor, fearlessness and humor comes out all on her own, and leaves nothing on the table.

Along with director L. Frazier, Mo and her husband Sidney Hicks produced the highly intimate comedy show.

The Baltimore native has never been one to hold her tongue, no matter the cost. On stage for this new stand-up, she said it was the most vulnerable she had ever been. “This one is personal,” she explained in the special’s teaser. Nothing is off limits, even a lesson from her grandmother in rocking a very different type of mic.

“Why did I title this special My name is Mo’Nique? I give you my word, after 72 minutes you’ll all know what this shit is called My name is Mo’Nique. You could all say, ‘Damn, we didn’t know we were going to find out about all this!’ Yes, my name is Mo’Nique. This one here is personal.

“When you walk away from this one, when you’ve turned your TV off of this one, you’ll be like, ‘Now we understand this woman,'” the BMF star continued. “For 32 years I’ve been funny and I’m grateful for this gift. But this show here really lets you see why I swing the way I swing…There are things I’m going to say in this comedy special that I thought take to my grave.
