The Witchfinder deleted by the BBC after a series |

OHMYGOSSIP – ‘The Witchfinder’ was canceled after just one series.
The BBC2 sitcom – which starred Daisy May Cooper and Reece Shearsmith and had Steve Coogan on board as executive producer – has not been renewed for another run after hitting the small screen for six episodes in March 2022.
A BBC spokeswoman told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Sometimes we have to make tough choices and sadly ‘The Witchfinder’ won’t be coming back.
“We thank everyone involved in the show.”
The series is set in 1645 during the English Civil War, with “This Country” star Daisy playing an alleged witch who is taken across East Anglia for her trial.
Tim Key – who has previously worked on Coogan projects as Alan Partridge Simon’s sidekick and other roles – played wizard Gideon Bannister, while Jessica Hynes and Ricky Tomlinson were also part of the stellar cast.
The show was written by brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons, who had also created and directed “This Time With Alan Partridge”.
However, an insider said, “‘The Witchfinder’ started off with decent ratings, but quickly dipped to a level where executives simply couldn’t justify giving it a second season.
“It’s fair to say the concept was quite niche so it was always going to be difficult to find an audience, even on BBC Two.
“But while he won’t be returning, his departure makes way for new comedy projects on the Beeb.”
Daisy has previously spoken about filming the show and admitted her biggest challenge was keeping her character Bram’s horse under control.
She said: “There’s a horse called Bram and he’s a little, well I swear, he’s a little b*****d. Deep down, he’s so smart that horse that I have to go up. Between takes, he’ll eat grass and the coaches will say, “No Bram, wait until we finish the scene, you can eat grass.”
“This horse is pretending to scratch his leg and at the last minute he’ll just like to go get some grass. It blows my mind. And he knows I’m an amateur rider because I’ve never ridden a horses before this show and he knows it, so he’s gonna start acting and being a bit of a jerk, because they’re so smart. The biggest a******e of this cast is a horse.
