FREE EXHIBITION FEATURING WORKS BY FIRST NATIONS ARTIST DANNY EASTWOOD OPEN TO ALL AT THE LEO KELLY BLACKTOWN ARTS CENTER

The public is invited to the Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Center for a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition: I Talk Through My Art and My Art Talks Through Me, featuring the works of prolific First Nations artist Danny Eastwood, a proud man and Ngemba resident of the Darug area west of Sydney.

This important exhibit is curated by Eastwood’s son, Jamie Eastwood, and is paired with six free workshops for all ages. Eastwood is well known for his extensive murals on Sydney’s walls, floors, hospitals and trains, and with 40 years of creating iconic cartoons for the Koori Mail, he is an inspiration to generations of people. artists.

From March 2 to April 15, 2023, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, visitors of all ages are invited to come and experience the exhibit of Eastwood’s new and existing paintings, prints, cartoons, and ceramics. Throughout the exhibition, Eastwood will add new creations to his ‘Cartoon Wall’ featured at the Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre.

For 2 hours each Friday (10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), art lovers of all ages can join Eastwood for workshops such as painting (March 10 and April 14), drawing and cartooning (March 17), jewelry making (24 March), molding manufacture and molding of plaster for sculpture (March 31). Although these are free, registration is essential as places are limited.

Danny Eastwood said, “Art is my voice and my heart. Through my practice, I speak about my life experiences, my culture and my heritage. My art is not only about the finished product, but also about the journey of creation. I find inspiration in my community, my people and the world around me.
