‘SNL’ Video: Donald Trump Cold Open Indicted – Saturday Night Live

Presidents past and present have always been reliable comic fodder for Saturday Night Liveand this week’s news about Donald Trump’s indictment was no exception.

James Austin Johnson has played our 45th President again, as Trump, after being ‘indicated’, seeks to earn some extra money producing the album This is what I call my legal defense fund, a.k.a trump popz.

“Now you may have seen that I opened my rallies with my wonderful song, ‘Justice for All’, which I performed with the J6 choir – it’s a very real thing,” Trump assured the voters and music fans around the world. “It was the number one downloaded song. We beat ‘Flowers’ by Miley… Our song made so much money, I thought, why stop there?

We were then treated to snippets of “all the hits,” as Trump, with help from Don King (Kenan Thompson) and his son Don Jr. (Mikey Day), tried to sing along (if we may call it that) tracks like Black Crowes’ “Hard to Handle”, Alanis Morrissette’s “Ironic” and the Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton classic, “Islands in the Stream”.

“What a deal, only 30 classic covers, all awful,” Trump said, adding that the money generated will help “your favorite president defend our movement and especially me against the evil Manhattan Dah.” (“Dah” being Trump-speak for “district attorney.”)

After his son said goodbye (“This may be the last time I see you!”), Trump signed off, promising Manhattan that he would see them on Tuesday. “Will be wild!” he exclaimed.

The skit of course spoofed Trump’s real indictment on Thursday when it was announced that the former US president was facing charges stemming from silent money payments made to women he allegedly had sex with.
