EastEnders fans slam soap for ‘glorifying’ Lily’s pregnancy

On last night’s episode of EastEnders (Monday, April 10, 2023), Lily attended her 20-week-old baby scan with Ricky and Stacey.

As Stacey chokes up to make a phone call to Shifty Shiv, Lily and Ricky find out the sex of their baby. However, they decided to keep it a secret and have a gender reveal party to break the news.

Tonight (Tuesday April 11) the party revealed what Lily and Ricky had and everyone was excited by the news.

After watching these scenes, EastEnders fans took to Twitter to slam the soap opera for “glorifying” Lily’s pregnancy.

EastEnders: Lily attended her 20 week old baby scan

Last night Lily attended her 20 week old baby’s ultrasound alongside Stacey and Ricky Jnr. Ricky was late after questioning his ability to be a father, but Stacey talked him into it.

With Lily alone in the hospital, she was told she would have to reschedule as she could not have a CT scan without an adult present. However, Stacey and Ricky arrived soon after, allowing Lily to be scanned.

Inside the hospital room, Lily and Ricky found out their baby’s gender while Stacey went outside to phone Shifty Shiv.

At the end of their date, Lily told Stacey that they had found out the baby’s gender but wanted to keep it a secret. They were planning to have a gender reveal party.

Ricky suggested they pop a balloon to reveal the gender, but Lily added that she could bake a cake to save money.

EastEnders fans slam soap for ‘glorifying’ Lily’s pregnancy

After hearing Lily and Ricky express their desire for a gender reveal party, EastEnders fans slammed the soap for “glorifying” Lily’s pregnancy.

They complain that the soap shouldn’t treat Lily’s pregnancy like a typical pregnancy – she shouldn’t be celebrating because she’s only 12.

One viewer wrote: “A gender reveal party for a 12 year old. I’m still trying to figure out how wrong it is.

A second fan wrote, “Love EastEnders right now but glorifying a 12 year old girl who gets pregnant and throwing a gender reveal party is not it.”

Another EastEnders fan commented, “Gender reveal party, it’s just kids themselves – so sad.”

A final person tweeted, “First gender reveal on the show and it’s for two 12 year olds…it’s sl is so dystopian.”

EastEnders: Lily’s Gender Reveal Party

At EastEnders tonight, Lily hosted the gender reveal party after baking a cake.

However, chaos ensued when Sam showed up at the party, despite Ricky Jnr making it clear he didn’t want her there.

When Lily and Ricky Jnr were about to open the cake, Stacey was forced to leave to take care of Shifty Shiv in the Arks.

But she came back right after the baby turned out to be a girl. Stacey is thrilled to have a granddaughter, but will it keep it simple?
