ITV confirms John Simm’s drama Grace is returning for series 4

Series 3 of Grace is over, but the story is far from over. Fans will therefore be delighted to know that Detective Roy Grace will be back for series 4.

The crime drama is based on the best-selling novels by Peter James, and there are plenty more to adapt (currently 19 in total).

And luckily, ITV has ordered another set of books for adaptation.

Here’s what we know so far!

Grace series 4 is coming!

ITV has confirmed that Grace will return with series 4 at some point in the future. A spokesperson for the channel told ED! that the popular John Simm drama “goes into production in a few weeks”.

It is known that Series 4 will contain four feature films. The new series is expected to be inspired by the novels Dead Man’s Time, Want You Dead, You Are Dead and Love You Dead.

In an interview with ED! ahead of the start of Series 3, John Simm revealed that he would be “very happy” to play DSI Roy Grace for the next 10 years!

He said, “It’s out of our control, I guess. I would be very happy to film all the Peter James books. I love doing it; I love the crew and the cast. It’s a great gig. If we do a good enough job, we’re ready to film them all. They are great books and we all want to see them on screen. I think we’re going to crack and do series 5, and film four more next year.

“My fear is that we will catch up with the books. But Peter James is quite prolific.

How did series 3 end?

Series 3’s closing scenes of Grace saw Roy’s wife Sandy walk into the house she shared with him before his frankly very strange disappearance. Viewers saw her take hair from a brush (Roy uses a hairbrush!?) and put it in an envelope clearly marked with authorship.

We know she has a son who is about 10 years old – and Sandy has been missing for the same amount of time. So we can only guess that Sandy’s son could be Roy’s. Which makes his disappearing act even more puzzling! Why would she have disappeared if she was pregnant?

News about Sandy’s disappearance was “introduced” into every episode of Grace. And his ex-wife has recently been much closer than Roy could have ever imagined.

It was also revealed in the series 3 finale, titled Not Dead Yet, that Roy’s new partner, Cleo, is pregnant. So did Roy Grace become a dad twice in a matter of minutes? All will be revealed in future Grace series!

Who will play in the cast?

John Simm will return as Roy Grace, opposite Richie Campbell as DS Glenn Branson

Meanwhile, Craig Parkinson will reprise his role as DS Norman Potting, opposite his on-screen love interest Laura Elphinstone as DS Bella Moy.

Zoë Tapper returns as Roy Grace’s partner Cleo Morey, who we expect to have a cute baby bump in Series 4.

Of course, Clare Calbraith will also return as the mysterious Sandy, Roy’s long-lost first wife.

As usual, each feature film episode will host a different guest cast.

Series 3 featured Thomas Coombes as creepy taxi driver Johnny Kerridge.

When will Grace series 4 begin?

The first series of Grace aired in March 2021, followed by the second series in May 2022, and the third series started on March 19 this year.

It is therefore expected that the series 4 will land around the same time, in the spring of 2024.
