Will Ghost be releasing new music soon? Tobias Forge weighs in – The World of Jimmy Star

It’s only been a year since Ghost released their fifth studio album, Impera (which Loudwire named as one of the 50 Best Rock + Metal Albums of 2022). Still, Papa Emeritus IV – aka bandleader Tobias Forge – says new music could be on the way. In fact, it could arrive before the start of their next 2023 tour!

As you may know, Ghost will begin playing in Europe in May before hitting the road across North America (with Amon Amarth) in August and September.

In a recent interview (March 10) with French radio station OUI FM, Forge was asked about the possibility of doing a “By Request” tour (like Metallica did in 2014). In their response, Forge hinted at the possibility of things changing when they start making shows again, as well as the potential for new Ghost material in the next couple of months:

Even if we obviously change things. . . it’s more from a practical point of view. This tour we are starting. . . [will see us] change a few things around. . . . The thing is, we’re always trying to change things, and now, just because there’s been – there’s going to be some change. There could be, by then there could be new music. Uh, I’m just saying!

So it’s going to be a little different. It will be a different setup. If we ever do an “on request” [tour] – in a way, I wouldn’t mind doing a poll on what people want to hear. But, on the other hand, it’s like the songs that we don’t play regularly, maybe there’s a reason why they aren’t played. Because, usually, from a practical point of view, they are . . . when i say “hard to play” it’s not a challenge for youtube guitarists online [who’re] saying, “They’re not tough at all!” That’s not the point. Sometimes a song can be difficult to play well, so it sounds good. So it feels good. So it fits in well overall.

In the future, there might be an alternative that we have discussed. . . where there might come a time when we’ll do a completely different set than what we have now. Then you can rework it to run smoothly with only the odd numbers.

So what do you think of Forge’s statements? Let us know!

Last month, the band released Chapter 16 of their video series (“Tax Season”), making fans wonder if they’re about to kill Papa Emeritus IV. February 2022 also saw fans with graphic design skills creating Ghost-inspired Valentine’s Day cards.

How touching!
