Ed Gamble has joined the cast of Celebrity Hunted – something he probably wouldn’t have done when his weight hit 19 stone.
The comedian lost seven stones at the start of his fame.
But how and why did Ed Gamble lose so much weight? And does he have a girlfriend?
Here’s everything you need to know about the London-born comedian.
Who is Ed Gamble and why is he famous?
Ed Gamble is an English comedian, actor and writer, finalist for the Chortle Student Comedy Awards 2007.
Comedy fans will know him best for co-hosting The Peacock and Gamble Podcast.
Ed is a regular guest on comedy shows like Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Would I Lie to You? and task master.
In fact, Ed won the ninth series of Taskmaster in 2019.
He co-wrote and starred in comedy series Almost Royal and Man Down.
Last year, Ed co-created comedy show The Island with his Celebrity Hunted co-star James Acaster.
In the series, host Tom Allen invites four comedians to create their own personal dream island.
Ed has toured with his stand-up show Blood Sugar, in which he talks about his type 1 diabetes diagnosis.
He will soon be touring Australia and New Zealand with his Electric Tour.
How old is he and where is he from?
Edward Stephenson Jamison Gamble was born on March 11, 1986 in Hammersmith, London.
He is currently 37 years old.
The comedian attended King’s College School in Wimbledon, before going to Durham University.
He studied philosophy and began his acting career with the Durham Revue.
Why and how did Ed lose seven kilos of weight?
Ed talks openly about losing seven stones in weight.
When he started stand-up comedy, he was significantly bigger than he is now.
But after changing his diet and starting to exercise, Ed changed his body shape.
He took up running and has now taken part in several marathons.
He revealed: “When I was 23 or 24 I lost a lot of weight and started trying to get my lifestyle under control a bit.”
Ed, who previously weighed 19 stone, lost six stone in as many months.
He told the Daily Star: “I didn’t go on a crazy crash diet.
“I just changed my lifestyle – I stopped binge eating, I stopped drinking for a while – and it just went away.
“Then I started exercising and found I liked it.”
Ed made the decision to lose weight when he started getting a few TV bookings.
However, he insists he “didn’t really have any self-esteem issues”.
He says: “I was perfectly happy. But when I was booked for TV, I thought it would be nice to lose a few pounds.
Does Ed Gamble have diabetes?
Ed Gamble has type 1 diabetes.
Doctors diagnosed Ed with type 1 diabetes when he was 13 years old.
Fortunately, his mother was a nurse and noticed that he was often thirsty and needed to go to the bathroom.
He now addresses his condition as part of his performance.
He has since turned his illness into a comedic spectacle and named his stand-up tour Blood Sugar!
Ed uses a constant blood sugar monitor – a sensor in his stomach sends readings through a transmitter in his skin directly to an app on his phone.
The comedian recently took up running and has since competed in the London Marathon, raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.
Who is Ed Gamble’s wife?
Ed is married to television production worker Charlie Jamison.
The couple have been dating since 2011 when they were set up by mutual friends.
They married on September 9, 2021, after postponing three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ed shared an Instagram post on April 25, 2020, breaking the news to his fans that it was the day they were supposed to get married.
He said: “Today should have been the day we got married.
“It absolutely sucks that it won’t happen today, but we’re doing pretty well overall.
“We put on outfits (real wedding outfits are confiscated from various stores) and started drinking.
“Anyway, it’s actually too hot to get married, so everything turned out fine.”
The couple live together in South West London and share a cat called Pig.
