Chance the Rapper pits solo artist Manasseh Samone against sister trio Sorelle in Adele’s “Someone Like You.”
Monday is the first night of Battle Rounds on Season 23 of The voice in which each of the coaches – Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Niall HoranAnd luck the rapper — paired two artists from their teams to go head-to-head in a singing battle.
In a first preview released by NBC, Chance the Rapper pitted a solo artist Manasseh Samon against threesome sister Sorelle on a performance of Adele“Someone Like You” and the ladies give it their all! It might be three to one, but Manasseh’s powerful voice stands out against Sorelle’s smooth harmonies.
When the ladies were done, Kelly asked, “Luck, is that your arrangement?” No one has heard this song like this. It was very cool !
Then she turned to the performers and said, “Sorelle, it was complex harmonies. You never got lost. It was well done. Manessah, you are the reason the show exists. You are amazing in tone and have errands for days. Even when you were here singing (for Sorelle), she was here living and breathing the song. You can’t go wrong anyway, Chance, but Manessah, you’re so good.

Blake says, “When the singing started separately, I thought to myself, ‘How is this going to blend together?’ Now, I never want you not to sing together, all of you. Incredible arrangement. Manessah is all Kelly just said, but I want to talk about Sorelle for a minute. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard on this show a group singing with such an attack, which was so tight with each other. It’s almost hard to believe it was live. And for that reason, I would go with Sorelle because I’ve never heard of anything like it.
Niall agrees with Blake saying, “Ladies, that was phenomenal. I can’t believe what I just heard. Manessah, where you started that song and where you ended it are two different planets. Like creepy stuff. Really amazing. And Sorelle, the harmony block sounds like a record you’d be hard pressed to mix so well. You walk in and it’s like a wall of I think I would lean towards Sorelle precisely for this reason.

Then Chance steps in, who has the final say on who stays and who goes. He says, “I’m so proud of you guys. It was a masterful performance from both sides. Manessah you are one on one and your ability to take notes all came together and I don’t want that to be lost at all. Sorelle, it’s incredibly difficult to work with harmonics to make sure the pitch is correct with your sisters and [the fact that] you’re so poised and young, that’s something this competition needs. It’s a really tough decision.
Who will Chance choose as the winner of this battle?
The voice airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. and Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
