Katy Perry had to spend ‘so much money’ fixing ‘orange’ tan in California Gurls video – Reuters

Katy Perry was forced to spend “so much money” fixing her ‘California Gurls’ music video after her spray tan went bad.

The 38-year-old singer ‘didn’t have time’ to get her bronze glow applied the day before a shoot, so she had no choice but to undergo the treatment just hours before she was not needed to film – and found herself “orange tree and orange tree” as the day went on.

Looking back on her ‘Life in Looks’ in a video for Vogue.com, she said: “The fun story behind it all is that I look super tanned here, don’t you ?

“I rarely get self-tanners, and usually you’re supposed to get them the night before. Well, I just didn’t have time. So, I got them the day of my clip.

“When you tan in the morning of your music video, your color gradually changes throughout the day. So I just kept getting orange and orange and orange.

“We had to spend so much extra money coloring this clip because in one part of the video I’m this orange color and then I’m this orange color in the next part of the clip.

“Kids, just a little advice: fake tan the night before.”

Katy explained that she and costume designer Johnny Wujek “came up with this concept together” for the video – in which she and Snoop Dogg explore a Candyland-style set – and admitted that her sparkly shorts worn with her bra iconic cupcake was actually Diesel jeans that had been “cut and dazzled”.

The “Teenage Dream” singer explained that she had two “different ways” of dressing on the red carpet.

She said, “My red carpet outfits vary depending on what I’m going to do or what it is or the theme, but I kind of go two different ways.

“Either I go OTT weird and fun and wild and wacky, or I go sleek, evolved, designer, gorge.”
