Vanessa Hudgens And Austin Butler were seen crossing paths outside Vanity Fair’s Oscars party on March 12. The exes, who dated for eight years before their split in early 2020, had a brief reunion as they left the party. They were pictured in the same setting, proving just how close they grew, although the context of any conversation they may have had is unclear.

Austin was at the VF party with his girlfriend, Kaia Gerber, even though she was MIA when he was photographed leaving. Austin and Kaia have been dating since late 2021. Meanwhile, Vanessa recently got engaged to her boyfriend, Cole Tucker. She was alone on Oscar night, but her engagement ring sparkled on her left hand in photos from the evening.

Earlier in the evening, Vanessa co-hosted ABC’s Oscars red carpet show. Austin was a red carpet attendee, but he avoided his ex while doing his ABC interview with his co-host, Ashley Graham, instead. Kaia didn’t attend the Oscars with Austin, as he brought his best friend and manager as his plus one. Austin was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Elvisbut lost the prize to Brendan Fraserwho brought him home for his performance in The whale.

Austin has started filming Elvis in 2019 while still dating Vanessa, and he recently credited her with inspiring him into the role. “We were together for so long that she had this kind of clairvoyant moment, really,” Austin admitted in a recent interview. “So I… I owe him a lot for believing in me.”

The “clairvoyant” moment Austin was referring to happened before he even knew the Elvis movie was in progress. “I was going to watch the Christmas lights [with Vanessa] and there was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio,” he explained during a panel discussion for The Hollywood Reporter. “I was singing and [she] looked at me and said, “You have to play Elvis,” and I said, “Oh, that’s so long.” A few weeks later, I was playing the piano. I never really sang for my friends or anything. [She] was there and I was playing the piano, she said, “I’m serious, you gotta figure out how to get the rights to a script.” Then my agent called me and said, “So Baz Luhrmann is doing a Elvis film…’” In addition to the Oscar nomination, Austin also won a Golden Globe for his role in the film.
