When you look at the upcoming slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe titles, you might find many of the same names repeated over and over again. Moreover, the same scenarios are undoubtedly represented to the public in different packages. Instead of Thanos trying to conquer the galaxy, Kang will try to conquer the multiverse. It gets repetitive and predictable, and it’s possible that no supposedly cool voice behind the camera can change that.
These new titles produced for DC, however, are far from being repetitive and predictable. We’re sure The Authority was nowhere on your DCU bingo cards, and that’s exciting. From the sounds, audiences won’t watch the same movie with the same characters over and over again. We can’t say any of this for sure, as many details about these projects are kept under lock and key. However, the current DCU slate really seems to focus on how weird, weird, and unpredictable comics can be.
In trying to distance themselves from their inherently weird origins, many post-“Endgame” comic book movies have become indistinguishable from one another. Writers and directors shouldn’t be ashamed of these comics, so the idea of DC Studios embracing these different characters and stories in the future might finally make them a force for Marvel to reckon with. All that to say, it really is a great time to be a Swamp Thing fan.
