“You can’t be with this bunch of humans and not just be next to you,” McCarthy said of starring alongside Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne in the 2011 comedy.
Melissa McCarthy has a “Bridesmaids” suite all mapped out.
The ‘Little Mermaid’ actress revealed she’s been hoping for a follow-up to the 2011 comedy for years and has already come up with storylines for her character. The film followed a bride (Maya Rudolph) whose bridesmaid (Kristen Wiig) goes through an existential crisis while preparing for the wedding. McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rebel Wilson, Ellie Kemper and Chris O’Dowd also starred.
“I’ll be doing a ‘Bridesmaids’ sequel this afternoon, right now,” McCarthy told People magazine. “This group of women was the most magical thing ever. Almost all of us were already really good friends. I think it was such a magical time.
McCarthy added that she would reprise her role even though the actors are “all in our 90s and [writers] Kristen [Wiig] and Anne [Mumolo] are like, ‘Should we team up?’ I would be like, ‘Yes. Yeah, we should.
McCarthy shared that she hopes her character Megan and her Air love Marshall Jon, played by her real-life husband and movie partner Ben Falcone, would run Megan’s trucking business together while moonlighting as detectives. private.
“I think they have matching denim jackets with each other’s picture painted on them. I think they’re so happy. And they’re running a dog rescue, I’ll say that,” McCarthy teased.
Looking back at the production, namely a very gritty sequence in which the bridesmaids contract food poisoning and defecate in a bridal shop, McCarthy admitted she was “hesitant” to tackle the scene.
“It ended up being so funny,” she said. “Plus, just Kristen shoving 72 Jordan Almonds in her mouth. There was one take where she must have been 40. And we were like, ‘Kristen is going to choke.’ It was also terribly unprofessional acting because anyone not in front of the camera was usually hunched over and shaking. None of us behaved. Yeah, that and the dogs, I enjoyed all the dogs.
McCarthy concluded, “Oh my God. Just being around so many fun people where it really felt like people were falling to the ground because we couldn’t get any air in. like… You can’t be around this group of humans and not just be next to you.
McCarthy’s ‘Bridesmaids’ co-star Rudolph previously told IndieWire there was no “expectation” in the Paul Feig-directed comedy.
“We weren’t making a ‘women’s film.’ are already the funniest women we know,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum said. “We don’t think like, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be great if I looked high and low for [more] females?’ It’s just part of the reality. I think we were all very surprised by the continued headline which was, “Wow, Girl Comedies, What a Big Deal.” Like, bitch, I just do comedies! I happen to be a woman!
