by Taylor Swift Periods The tour is already proving to be one of the most exciting tours of the year, and the first night of the tour isn’t even over yet. Today (March 17), Taylor kicked off Periods toured in Glendale, AZ, which temporarily renamed itself “Swift City”. Joining her on opening night was hitmaker “Abcdefu” Gayle, as well as Paramore.

During the Paramore set, lead singer Hayley Williams recalled the first time she reached out to Taylor. In a clip shared by Variety, Williams said she first saw Taylor perform at the Grammy Awards when she was still a teenager. That’s when she got Taylor’s number.

“I was about 18 at the time, and I felt a little lonely, being so young and doing things, like the Grammys and all that,” Williams said. “And I met someone on the way out. And she said to me: ‘My daughter, she just played, she’s just started and she doesn’t really know anyone in the business. And I really want her to be with people her age who do the same, so I got her number.

The woman she is referring to is Taylor’s mother, Andrea Swift.

Williams went on and shared the moment she decided to reach out to Swift, hinting it was after the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when she was sadly interrupted by Kanye West during her acceptance speech. for Best Female Video.

“Because I’m like the shyest freak when I’m not on stage, I haven’t been texting [Taylor] until some VMAs scandal,” Williams said. “That was the first time I felt compelled to reach out because this person is really cool and didn’t deserve this. So it was around this time that I met Taylor Swift. And the guys and I got to watch her while we were playing shows and touring the world, we have to watch her trajectory. And I’m sure you know that, because you’re here tonight, so you obviously understand, but there are times when I talk to people and I’m like ‘I’m not sure you understand how much this amazing the artist is.
