Sometimes those dreams don’t work out (or maybe a celebrity finds a new niche in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming), but the truth isn’t that everyone who comes to Tinseltown stays for life. There are plenty of benefits to living the fast life in El Lay, but there are also benefits to leaving and changing the scenery of your life. Here are some celebrities who have found peace outside the City of Angels – and why they chose to leave!
jeffree star
makeup mogul jeffree star left El Lay life for ranch life! He sold his famous $15 million mansion and packed his Pomeranians for the rolling fields of Casper, Wyoming in December 2020. There he opened a new business, Star Yaks Ranchwhere he sells yak meat to local restaurants as well as individuals directly from his website.
Talk about a big turnaround – from makeup to meat!
Kanye West
Kanye West also left Hollywood for a ranch in Wyoming (which didn’t help quell the Jeffree Star rumors at the time)! In 2021, when rumors about his divorce from Kim Kardashian began to circulate, the rapper and the socialite were strongly at odds about the direction their future would take. The whole family started spending time together in Wyoming in 2019, but Kim changed her original dream of permanently moving to the Equality State when she started her law career. In a 2021 episode of keeping up with the Kardashiansshe says:
“Honestly, I can’t do this anymore. Why am I still in this place where I’ve been stuck for years? Like, it goes and moves in a different state every year. have to be, like, together so I can raise the kids. He’s an amazing dad, he’s done an amazing job. [Kanye] deserves someone who will support his every move [and] will follow him everywhere and move to Wyoming.
In January 2021, a source confirmed American weekly that the Stronger the rapper had no intention of leaving his ranch. One wonders how his new wife Bianca Censori feels in one of his many homes!
Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli
Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli hit the road and headed to Idaho, leaving Golden State behind. In April 2021, rumors began circulating that the actress and her man were stepping away from celebrity life to “work on their marriage.” But why Idaho? Do they really like potatoes that much? Well, a source said American weekly at the time:
“Lori enjoys hiking, skiing and the outdoors. Going on long hikes calms her down and she looks forward to her daily hikes. [Mossimo] also loves the outdoors and especially the snowboarding and skiing that Idaho has to offer.”
They also reportedly felt “comfortable” leaving the state after their daughters left the nest! Olivia Jade And Isabelle Rose left their parents’ home after the college admissions scandal – that Lori and Moss’ short time in prison may or may not have something to do with their plans to leave the country of USC!
Reese Witherspoon
In 2022, Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth left Los Angeles to find peace somewhere a little less hectic (but not too much). They decided to call Nashville, Tennessee their new home after both felt they needed to start a new chapter in their lives. An insider for ALL RIGHT! Magazine said at the time Revenge of a Blonde star really wanted to go home:
“Nashville has always been a special place for them, Reese in particular. It’s where she grew up, and she still has family there. Reese and Jim visit every year and decided it was time to do a more permanent move.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban left Hollywood in 2007 and found a place just half an hour south of Nashville on a farm. The country music singer raved The Tennessian when he and his wife found their forever home:
“The first place I took her [even before house-hunting] was near Leipers Fork. It ended up being in the general area where we will now call home. I just knew she would love him for the same reasons I love her. There is a rhythm and a way of life that satisfies me much more spiritually than many other places.
Kristin Cavallari
Kristin Cavallari knew everything was perfect when she found her home in Franklin, TN! After her 2020 divorce from her ex-husband cutler jay, she bought a three-story, five-bedroom farmhouse on 28 acres and never looked back. She said My field at the time:

Adrian Grenier
Actor Adrian Grenier decided to swap Cali for Texas in 2020 when he moved permanently to a farm in Bastrop, a town just 45 minutes from Austin. He revealed to life review in 2021, he had already planted a fruit forest and planned to create a wildlife reserve. It springs on the city:
“I had friends here, I ran a business here and I liked the pace. Austin is cosmopolitan without being pretentious; it’s earthy. People are smart and successful, but they don’t show it. There is nothing to prove, people accept you and it feels good right away.
julia robert
One home away from Hollywood wasn’t enough for julia robert! The actress is well known for her homes across the country, including her stunning properties in Hawaii, New Mexico, Georgia and New York. Her and her husband Daniel Moder couldn’t leave California altogether, however, and also have a home in Malibu.
The actress has already said Oprah Winfrey his favorite of all houses is his mansion in the State of Enchantment, spouting:
“It’s peaceful, and it’s a relief. I always say don’t be in a bad mood here. I don’t know if it’s New Mexico or just the mountains, but you can’t be stupid in a negative way.
Mara Wilson
Matilda herself didn’t have time for Hollywood’s golden standards and left town at just 13! Mara Wilson holds a special place in everyone’s hearts with her adorable ’90s childhood celebrity, but when she was done, she was OVER. She initially said her reasons for leaving the acting sphere was to focus on writing, but in 2016 she explained to NPR the pressure was too strong:
“I was very depressed, I was very anxious, I barely remember when Matilda came out. I only have vague memories of the premiere, and it was really hard on me. So I think I definitely got a little disenchanted with acting, with Hollywood.
So sad to hear…
Luckily, she overcame her struggles and is now living her best life in Burbank as a respected essayist and blogger.
Brigitte Mendler
Another Disney Channel star has left El Lay’s life to pursue a completely different career! Good luck Charlie alum Brigitte Mendler disappeared from her acting and musical career to go to university, and is currently a doctoral student at MIT. She lives a happy under-the-radar life in Mill Valley, Calif., with her husband skillfully griffin whom she married in 2019.
She may not be gone forever, as she teased that new music would be coming “soon” earlier this year! Exciting!
Nikki Blonski
hairspray Nikki Blonski says she never left Hollywood – Hollywood left her. The actress revealed in 2017 Our magazine after her iconic role as Tracy, she just couldn’t land auditions like her former co-stars Zac Efron And John Travolta. She told the outlet at the time:
“It was like they took me to the top of a mountain and gave me everything I ever wanted. Then after a year they all just looked at me and said, ‘D ‘okay, goodbye!’ and left me with no way down.
She now lives on Long Island with her partner Hailey Jo Jenson who she got engaged to last year.
Daniel Day Lewis
One of the most acclaimed actors of all time left Los Angeles and the film industry very suddenly and shocked his fans beyond measure. Representatives for Daniel Day Lewis told Variety in 2017 his film ghost yarn would be the last film he would put to his credit as an actor. The statement said:
“He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will comment further on it.
There isn’t much information on what he is doing at the moment, but last we heard he was living in Ireland with his wife Rebecca Miller.
Perez Hilton
