It almost seems fitting that Affleck would step out as Batman in this particular film. While we’re not going over it beat-by-beat here, “The Flash” had an incredibly long and troubled road to release, culminating in star Ezra Miller’s off-screen issues that nearly derailed the film. Still, as we’ve heard, the movie is amazing, with DC Studios co-head James Gunn calling it one of the best superhero movies ever made. That means if the public responds in kind, Affleck can head off into the sunset on a high note, in part by helping save what could have been a dumpster fire.
Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman” has proven to be one of the most controversial films of the modern era, setting the DC Universe on a path of confusion and disorder for years to come. The theatrical cut of “Justice League” was a huge debacle that led to Affleck stepping down from starring and directing “The Batman,” paving the way for Robert Pattinson to reprise the role outside of the main DCU. Affleck has never had a solo movie, and while a lot of people love his take on the Caped Crusader, he’s never had a really great movie under his belt – although Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ did eventually help. change that one way or another. Still, it will be good if he manages to end this strange run on good terms.
The cast also includes newcomer Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Michael Shannon (“Bullet Train”), Ron Livingston (“The Conjuring”), Maribel Verdu (“Elite”), Kiersey Clemons (“Sweetheart”) and Antje Traue (“Man of Steel”).
“The Flash” is set to hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
