Aven Yap Filmmaker

Screenwriter & Producer

Aven Yap is a classical pianist turned filmmaker. Born in Malaysia and raised in Brisbane, Aven has worked on a diverse roster spanning Asia and Australia.
Aven’s credits include the true crime documentary MAMA’S BOY (Melbourne Women in Film Festival 2018) and the multilingual factual series THE YOGA REVOLUTION which was filmed in five Asian countries. His award-winning short PIANO MUMS (St Kilda, Cinefest LA, Queen Palm International Film Festival) has a feature adaptation in development with investment from Screen Queensland and Screen Australia.

Aven was one of six writers selected by the Australian Writers’ Guild to take part in the Equity Foundation’s first Diversity Talent Showcase of 2018. Aven is currently Head of Story Development at Hoodlum Entertainment, a company Emmy® and BAFTA award-winning production. He previously worked with Orange Entertainment Co in development and production roles, and prior to that worked with WildBear Entertainment on over 40 hours of history, science and natural history television for ABC Australia and the documentary Disney + National Geographic, PLAYING WITH SHARKS.

Aven holds an Associate’s Degree in Piano Performance from Trinity College London and has been playing the piano for over a decade.
