“What a pity it will never see the light of day” – Deadline

Margot Robbie shares her first reaction after reading the Barbie script and was skeptical that the studio would even allow them to make the film.

“The first time I read the Barbie scenario, my reaction was: ‘Ah! It’s so good. What a shame it will never see the light of day,” she told BAFTA. “Because they will never let us make this movie.”

Robbie couldn’t say more about the story surrounding Barbie and remained mum when asked about the script.

Greta Gerwig co-wrote the screenplay and is directing the film. In November 2022, she explained how “terrifying” the screenplay-writing experience was.

“It was terrifying. I think there’s something about starting from this place where it’s like, ‘Well, anything is possible,'” Gerwig told Dua Lipa on her podcast. At your service. “It was like dizziness to start writing it. Like, where to start? What would the story be?
