The 39-year-old star got candid in a new interview about her 2018 hit song, which has gone viral and sparked conversations about race and police brutality.

However, it actually started out as something less serious: a Duck diss track.

“I had the idea three years ago. I said [director] Hiro [Murai] the idea, and he’s like, ‘I really want to do this.’… The idea for the song started out as a joke,” he told QG.

“To be completely honest, ‘This is America’ – that was all we had, that was that line. It started as a Duck diss, to be honest, like a funny way to do it. But then I was like, this shit seems kinda hard though. So I was like, let me play with this,” he continued.

His quarrel with Duck began in 2014 when he said at a concert in Australia that his rapper alter ego was better than Duck, Kendrick Lamar And Schoolboy Q combined. The two would become friends in the years that followed.

He also revealed that he was working with malia obama on a movie.
