The Prince of Egypt was DreamWorks’ first traditional animated film and was a near and dear project to the DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenbergthe heart. The classic tale of the life of Moses is a perennial favorite during the Easter and Passover season, with the story of Moses and his quest to lead the enslaved Israelites to freedom that continues to resonate to this day. Katzenberg acknowledged the challenges of adapting a Bible story for film, telling Time Magazine, “We have 88 minutes to tell 70 years of Moses’ life. We can never be a literal account of the Bible. We edited God, but we didn’t rewrite it. However, Katzenberg and his studio worked within the confines of the medium, creating a beautiful and often intense film that appeals to a wide audience while remaining true to the core messages and themes of their source material.
At least part of the film’s success is attributable to the excellent voice cast. The incredibly stacked supporting cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Danny Glover, patrick stuart, Jeff Goldblum, Helen Mirren, Steve MartinAnd Martin runs. Moses (and the burning bush) are voiced by Val Kilmerthe actor behind classic roles like Iceman in Superior gun and Batman in batman forever. Opposite Kilmer is Ralph Fiennes like Ramses. Fiennes is best known for playing Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise, was recently in the movie, The Menu.
The Prince of Egypt won Best Animated Feature at the Critics Choice Awards.
