DIRECTV and Warner Bros. Discovery helps students bring their best to “Say Yes to Prom”

Prom season is an exciting and highly anticipated event in the lives of most high school students. But not everyone can afford to take part in this sometimes costly tradition. DIRECTV has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery to help create memorable experiences for more than 700 Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) students at the Say Yes to the Prom event in early March.

The three-day event took place on the grounds of Warner Bros. in Burbank, California. LAUSD’s 700 students from underserved communities were pampered, prepared and treated for the ultimate VIP experience. The students were dressed from a wide selection of beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories – which they could take home free of charge. Then they indulged in professional hair styling, makeup, and more to create the complete look. Male students were treated to tuxedos, shoes and fresh haircuts to look their best. Afterwards, they enjoyed hanging out, having lunch and playing games in the DIRECTV VIP Lounge – ending a well-deserved day of relaxation.

What is saying yes to prom?

This charitable and educational initiative was created to provide mentorship to students while giving them the “confidence to shine at prom and beyond.”

Much more than the show – inspired by say yes to the dress, this helpful program aims to help over 1,000 students find their perfect prom look. This year’s tour hit two locations, Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles. Volunteer employees of Warner Bros. Discovery, Macy’s and DIRECTV helped organize and host a full day of shopping. The experience included more than a thousand donations of dresses, shoes and accessories, as well as fittings, tuxedo rentals (at Men’s Warehouse), hair and makeup consultations by professional stylists.

How DIRECTV got involved

About 20 DIRECTV volunteers attended and helped out at the Burbank event, managing the DIRECTV VIP lounge and interacting with the enthusiastic students.
